The Problem
Located on a strip of land between the River Calder and Calder and Hebble Navigation Elland Wharf dates back over 200 years and now comprises a series of Grade II listed buildings. Formerly stone built warehouses and canal housing the properties are now used as contemporary office space and personal retail.
Situated in the Calder Valley the properties are prone to flooding from both river and canal with 3 major flood events affecting the properties over the last 10 years. The project required a full flood solution to all buildings whilst maintaining the Grade II listing appearance.
M3 Floodtec designed and installed new hardwood entrance screens, flood doors and flood windows as well as internal composite flood doors to the buildings to provide a flood protection level of 900mm.
The screens were manufactured from Accoya which is a low maintenance modified sustainable timber sourced with an FSC® certification to have longevity as well as a low environmental impact.
High level opening casements were incorporated into the sash style windows fabricated to match the original 1820’s units to maintain the appearance of the existing buildings.
Works were completed in November 2020.
