The Problem
Dating back to the turn of the 19th Century, Merrythought Village is a collection of renovated bespoke retail workshops, as well as home to the last Teddy Bear manufacturers in the UK.
Located at the northern end of the Wharfage in the Ironbridge George, the site is prone to flooding from the river Severn which runs along the edge of the property and features regularly on media outlets when flood events occur.
Protecting the village against flood inundation called for the deployment of several different flood technologies both passive as well as deployable to fit in with the different buildings, their use and the heritage status of the site.
Technologies used included external and internal Sump and Pump systems, deployable Barriers, Stop Log Barriers and Defender Walls, Non Return Valves and Puddle Pumps.
