The Problem
Established and renowned as one of Kingsbridge’s premier leisure superstores, Ashby’s site, located on the Dartmouth coastal road, had suffered frequent flood events from excessive highway surcharge and having to rely on the deployment of sandbags was neither practical or reliable to prevent water ingress into the property.
In periods of heavy rainfall, excess water accumulating on the road and adjacent garage forecourt, frequently overwhelmed the existing drainage system and with floor to ceiling glass frontages to the superstore, flooding was a serious threat to the integrity of the building and operation of the business.
The Solution:
Ashby’s called in M3 Floodtec who proposed a solution that was to install 2 fully flood resistant glazed screens in Rosewood UPVC at 4.8m wide and 2.5m high with Defender flood proof access doors manufactured and KitemarkTM Certified to BS 851188.
Works were subsequently instructed and completed in November 2022.
